TV spreads a false notion of the civil litigator. Knowing the three stages of a civil lawsuit makes the real picture easy to see.
If you want to hire a lawyer, you must understand what a retainer is — money, a relationship, and an agreement. All three matter.
Why go to court? Compensation comes to mind first — but it is not the only reason, and not everything can be guaranteed.
